President's Message
Congratulations to Ian Danis as this year’s Club Champion!
August is an exciting month here at the club. I ask every member to please support the Gate City Invitational Golf Outing. This is a great asset to our club and there will be many returning out of state and in state golfers from the past years. Many of our members also play in this Invitational. The tent will be up and there is usually a nice breeze for watching the golfers at the 18th hole. Next is the 10th year Anniversary for the Jay Stilz Memorial Golf outing Fundraiser. Please see the enclosed information. Please note that the club is hosting the Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing this month. Participation from our members, golfing or volunteering would be welcome to any of these events.
Everything is going well in all aspects of our club thanks to our dedicated staff. I personally want to thank our entire staff for the dedication and hard work during these summer months. I also would like to thank Julian Shrout for all his time and labor at the pool this season. Please continue enjoying the pool and golf course.
The new Rule Book is now available on our website. You can view and print this online at www.mountsterlingcc.com. If you do not have access to a computer, please let us know and we can print you a copy. Beginning September 1st the newsletter and calendar of events will only be available on our web page or a copy can be obtained from the clubhouse or pro shop. If you still need a newsletter mailed, please let us know. 498-3020
New member certificates have been issued and certificate holders may now pick up these at the pro shop.

Restaurant Notes

Thanks to all members who have visited us at the Clubhouse Restaurant this past month.
We welcome new members: Neil & Tiffany Trimble and Chris & Kristi Bowlin.
It seems like Summer is quickly passing us by and school will be starting early this month. We do hope you will continue enjoying the pool as much as possible. When school starts, the pool window will only be staffed and open on the weekends. I will constantly keep checking if anyone needs something if they are at the pool.
Please note some of the featured nightly dinner specials on your restaurant calendar of events. The clubhouse is open for lunch Tuesday through Sunday, offering daily lunch specials (wraps, sandwiches and salads). Call the clubhouse at 498-3020 and we can have your lunch prepared and ready for you to pick up or dine in. Our Seafood Buffet will be the last Friday of the month. For non-seafood lovers, we will offer Steaks, Burgers and Hot Browns. When anyone is playing golf and wants lunch, you may call in and pick up your food at the bar or the pool window. Storing this number 498-3020 in your phone would be a great idea!
The first Wednesday of each month, (2nd Wednesday in August), August 12, we will have member bartenders, this month is Abby Evans, Dede Stilz and Farrah Ingram. and we will be offering $1.00 hamburgers. Dine in only. Also, each member will be entered into a drawing for a $100.00 giveaway. Each month that you are here it gives you and extra chance to win!. At the end of the evening, a name will be drawn. To win you must have been at the club on that evening and purchased food or beverage. If the name drawn has not participated that evening, then the monies are carried over to the next month with another $100 added on the first Wednesday of each month. Same procedure. Carryover (now $300) will continue until the end of the year and a name will be drawn at the President’s reception. The only names that will be entered then are the Wednesday night participants. Hopefully someone will win each month! No winner in July -the name drawn was Bryce Walker and unfortunately he was not here on that evening. A special thanks to our member bartenders in July, Brandon Wells, Jason McVey and Mike May. They donated their gratuities of $234.00 towards the club fundraiser. (Club golf outing and fundraiser to be held October 10)
Social events & golf outings coming up:
August 7-9: Gate City Invitational. Friday night will feature Prime Rib Buffet dinner and dance. Non-participants in the golf outing can buy tickets for this through Scott at the Pro Shop. 498-3412
August 14-15: Jay Stilz Memorial Fundraiser golf outing. Friday night features live band - “Crossover“. We will be offering menu specials for this Friday Evening. A flyer is included with this newsletter for participation in the golf outing.
August 31 - Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing. “It’s a Fiesta”

Thanks to everyone for their continuous support in the clubhouse and all of the compliments that have been expressed. To keep things interesting, I am always working on new recipes and menu items and am open for suggestions or requests to improve your dining experience. Congratulations to Ian Danis, winner of this years Men’s Club Championship. Second place was Brian Holley and third place was Kyle Beckham. Thanks to all members that played in this event.
Schedule of Golfing Events for August:
August 5-9 - Gate City Invitational Week - Play starts with an open scramble on Wednesday, August 5. Thursday will be
the shoot-out. Tournament play will begin on Friday, August 7 and conclude Sunday August 9.
August 15 - Jay Stilz Memorial - 12:30 Shotgun Start.
August 23 - We will be having a Ryder Cup match against Eagle Trace. Please contact me if you are interested in playing.
August 31 - Monday. Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing.

Per the bylaws of the Mt. Sterling Golf and Country Club: Restaurant and Pro Shop delinquent accounts 90 days or greater will have their charging privileges suspended and their names posted at the Pro Shop and Restaurant until their accounts have been paid in full. Going forward, any account ninety days delinquent as of the 10th of the month will have their names posted until the account is paid in full.
